Introduction

I was recently accepted into Medium’s Boost Nomination Pilot Program as a curator to help promote quality articles. This beta program aims to showcase high-quality writing beyond the reach of algorithms, providing an opportunity for talented writers to gain greater visibility and potentially earn more from their work.

The Boost Nomination Pilot allows selected publication editors to scour the platform for high-quality reads, and submit them to Medium’s internal curation team for review. These posts will be distributed further across Medium, allowing for more views, more reads, and more interaction in the form of claps and comments. The baseline for boosted articles is an additional 500+ views in the first week, but if the article is well-liked by its readers, it can go much, much higher. Some of these nominated articles can have their views skyrocket from a few hundred to hundreds of thousands of views in a matter of weeks.

For those of you enrolled in the MPP (Medium Partner Program), this can mean some significant ‘shifts’ in earnings from boosted articles.

Here’s a video where Ariel Meadow Stallings (she’s the one spearheading the program) explains boost nominations in an interview:

Getting Boosted!

For those of you looking to get nominated, look no further! If you’d like to spread your computer-science / cybersecurity / machine learning articles further across Medium, here’s a Google Form to submit any pieces you’d like →

Some guidelines to help get you nominated:

  • 5min+ reading time. No short-form posts, please.
  • A near-fluent level of English in the article. This helps with readability.
  • No typos, spelling mistakes, or filler text. If there are one or two instances but everything else works, I’ll still reach out and nominate the post once they’re corrected.
  • It must be an article published on Medium in the last 6 months. At the time of writing (May 31st, 2023), this would be December 1st, 2022.
  • I write about computer science, technology, cybersecurity, and AI. Try to submit things that are within (or are related to) those topics.
  • The story must meet Medium’s Distribution Standards.

What if I’m not nominated?

If you don’t receive any private notes about being nominated from me within a few days or so, feel free to contact me here and I’d be happy to discuss some steps to achieving the guidelines above.

Also, sometimes your article may not reach certain distribution standards, but it’s still a quality post that you’ve put a lot of time and effort into. In these scenarios, publishing your articles to The Gray Area can be a great way to gain additional traffic on a smaller scale. You can submit articles to The Gray Area using this Google Form.

Thanks for reading!
